Creek Side Art, featuring the artwork of Mary Ida Rolape
The establishment of her own studio and workshop was a early dream of Mary Ida Rolape. She has always been creating and selling art since her 16th birthday. The establishment of Creek Side Art came into being at the turn of the century with the building of her workshop right on Whites Neck Creek. Her Uncle William "Buck" Battenfield first got her interested in wood carving through his own efforts. He has won several ribbons in local judging contests and he currently teaches woodcarving at several senior citizen centers. Mary Ida learned the basics of wood carving from her Uncle and has continued on her own which now includes making castings of her own wood carvings. All the proceeds from the sale of Mary Ida's art work goes to support the wildlife habitat (Hard Bargain Farm Wildlife Habitat) that was established in 2002.
